Neighborhoods
What is the best Dallas neighborhood for out-of-state relocations?
It depends on your lifestyle. For professionals who want walkable city living, Uptown and Turtle Creek put you close to restaurants, the Katy Trail and downtown offices. For families focused on schools and space, Lake Highlands in Dallas and suburbs like Frisco, Allen and Rockwall are popular picks. I match neighborhoods to your commute, budget and daily routine before you ever tour a home.
Where should young professionals live in Dallas?
Uptown, Oak Lawn, Deep Ellum, the Design District and Bishop Arts are top choices for young professionals. They offer nightlife, coffee shops, walkability and quick access to downtown. Uptown and Oak Lawn lean polished and central, while Deep Ellum and Bishop Arts lean artsy and local.
What are the best Dallas suburbs for families?
Families moving to DFW often look at Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Plano, Rockwall and Heath for their school districts, parks and newer homes. East of Dallas, Rockwall and Heath offer lake living and a small-town feel within commuting distance of the city.
Where can I find new construction homes near Dallas?
Some of the most active new construction areas are east and north of Dallas, including Forney, Rockwall, Royse City, Heath, Celina, Prosper and McKinney. As your buyer’s agent, I represent you (not the builder) through the entire build, from choosing the lot to the final walkthrough.
What are the most affordable areas near Dallas?
Buyers looking for more home for the money often consider Mesquite, Garland, Forney, Sunnyvale and parts of Kaufman County. These areas give you access to Dallas with more affordable price points and plenty of newer construction.
Cost, Taxes and Money
Does Texas have a state income tax?
No. Texas has no state income tax, which is one of the biggest reasons people relocate here. Property taxes are higher than in many states, so I help you compare the total monthly cost of each home, not just the price.
How much are property taxes in Dallas?
Property taxes in DFW vary by city, county and school district, so two homes at the same price can have very different tax bills. Once you own and live in your home, filing for the Texas homestead exemption with your county appraisal district can lower your taxes. I walk every client through this after closing.
Are there first-time homebuyer programs in Texas?
Yes. Texas has state and local down payment and closing cost assistance programs, and some lenders offer their own first-time buyer options. I connect you with trusted lenders who can tell you exactly which programs you qualify for.
Moving Logistics
Can I buy a home in Dallas before I move?
Yes. Many of my relocation clients buy from out of state. I offer live video tours, neighborhood drive-throughs on camera, and a clear step-by-step plan so you can make a confident decision before you arrive.
How is commuting in Dallas?
Dallas is a driving city, and commute time depends heavily on where you live versus where you work. DART light rail connects downtown with several suburbs, and Dallas has two major airports, DFW International and Dallas Love Field. I always map your commute before we choose a neighborhood.
What do I need to do after moving to Texas?
New Texas residents generally need to register their vehicle within 30 days and get a Texas driver’s license within 90 days. Homeowners should also file for the homestead exemption. I share a full DFW Move-In Checklist with every client.
What is the weather like in Dallas?
Dallas has hot summers with many days near or above 100°F, mild winters, and spring storm season. Features like good insulation, a newer HVAC system and a shaded backyard matter here, and I point them out on every tour.
Working With Keyra
Why work with a Dallas native realtor when relocating?
A local expert knows the things a map can’t show you: traffic patterns, which areas are growing, school zones and where the best tacos are. I grew up in Mesquite, I’ve lived and worked across DFW, and I bring that insider knowledge to every move.
What areas does Keyra Ford serve?
I serve Dallas, Mesquite, Garland, Rockwall, Sunnyvale, Heath and the surrounding DFW counties, including Collin, Tarrant, Kaufman and Hunt.
